5 Tips On How to Eat Healthy On a Budget

Eating healthy, meal planning, and shopping for groceries can be a real challenge.  I know how difficult it can be to do the shopping and only have a certain amount to spend each month.  I have come up with a few tips on how to eat healthy on a budget that has worked for me.

1. Buy fresh and freeze

Fresh produce is perfect for any healthy lifestyle but it can add up.  I recommend buying what is currently in season and stock up on it.  Divide into bags and store them in the freezer.

2. Always look for sales

Local groceries usually have weekly sales.  I sign up for several stores and compare each sale each week.

3. Join a wholesale store

Joining a wholesale store like Costco, Sam’s, or Bj’s is a great way to buy bulk to save money.  I am a member of Costco.  I buy lots of good quality meats, especially if it is on sale, and divide it into baggies to freeze.  I have also managed to do my major shopping to only once a month.  I have enough room in my freezer to store everything so I only have to shop once every 30 days. (Extra tip: Buy a membership with a family member and split the annual fee)

4. Plan and Divide

Planning your meals ahead of time can also help with over-spending.  If you buy in bulk, dividing it into individual baggies to freeze helps to keep you organized and spending less.

5. Clip and Save

Coupons are extremely helpful and easy to find.  Sign up with apps or in-store deals. P&G has its own booklet you can sign up for and it’s free.  Most stores take coupons so hunting them down can be easier than you realize.  Just spending the time to look for these coupons, and remember to bring them can help you save a ton of money.

  1. Great tips! Another one I do is to make one big meal over the weekend and then pick away at the leftovers for week-day lunches 🙂 Not only does it save money, but it also saves work in the kitchen!
