5 Ways to Naturally Treat Body Acne

When summer comes around, it is time to pull out those bathing suits and open back shirts.  For some, embarrassing body acne can appear on the back, chest, and upper shoulders ruining the chance to show off that new bathing suit.

Acne can develop practically anywhere on the body, with the exception of the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.  This is due to the lack of sebaceous follicles, which contains skin pores.  Acne is caused by skin oil build up inside the skin pore.  The follicles overproduce cells and eventually become blocked.  This allows bacteria to feed on the oil and multiply.

Body acne can form in very similar ways to facial acne.  However, the skin on the body contains larger pores which can be harder to get rid of than facial acne.

There are a lot of great beauty products to treat body acne that are not too expensive, but I also have a few remedies you could try at home.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is an amazing anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agent for getting rid of acne.  Be sure to dilute with water before applying directly to your skin.  Just dab the diluted apple cider vinegar directly on the affected site with a cotton ball.  Let it sit for 3-5 minutes then rinse thoroughly.

2. Baking Soda Scrub

Baking soda scrub may be a great to use to get rid of body acne.  However, since baking soda contains a high concentration of alkaline, it can be too harsh for certain skin types.  Test on a small part of your arm first before using.  To make the scrub, simply mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with some water until a thick paste is formed.  Gently rub on affected area, leave on for 1 minute then rinse with cool water.

3. Oatmeal

Taking a bath in oatmeal will exfoliate your skin, cleanse your pores, and even absorbs excessive oil from your skin.

4. Toothpaste

I found using toothpaste to clear acne on accident when I was in high school.  I accidentally dropped some on my chest and fell asleep without realizing it was on me until the next morning.  When I woke up, I noticed the crusty toothpaste on my chest.  When I wiped it off, I realized my breakout was gone!  Now a days, it is a known remedy for getting rid of acne.  Avoid the gel-type toothpaste because it is formulated differently than the regular paste.  Regular non-gel toothpaste is best.  Just rub it on the affected area, leave on overnight, then clean it off the next day.

5. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil contains antibacterial properties and can be an effective antiseptic.  It treats acne associated bacteria and breakouts.  It is safe to use but if you have never used tea tree oil before, dilute it with a few drops of olive oil.

  1. I didn’t used to struggle much with acne but ever since starting HBC it’s been a little bit of an issue… not terrible, but I’m grateful for the tips just the same 🙂
