More By Me

Imagine It, Achieve It, Become It

A dream might be defined as a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal.  Each of us have something we want to achieve whether it is a daily goal or an overall enhancement of ourselves.  Achieving small goals or big goals will give you a sense of accomplishment in life and will make you better, successful person. If you are a person who seeks to enhance themselves as much as I do, then here are a few ways that helped me achieve my goals.

Know what you want

Imagine what change you would like to achieve.  If you already have an idea how what you want to change, it will make it easier to achieve.  Do you want a promotion at work? Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to eat healthier?  Once you have this figured out then you are that much closer to accomplishment.

Set a Goal

Now set a goal for what you want to change about yourself. At first, aim small.  You don’t want to set yourself up for failure.  The more you accomplish, the more you will keep trying.  For example, if you want to lose weight you would need to set a small goal weight of 5 pounds in two weeks.  It may not seem like much but once you achieve it, then you are more likely to keep trying for another 5 pounds and so on. And before you know it, you have lost 30 pounds in 3 months.

Acknowledge possible road blocks

It is best to have the understanding, and mind-set, that there will be obstacles. But these obstacles are not reasons to give up either.  Knowing that they are possibilities but not accepting them are two different things. For example, if losing weight is your goal then it is best to understand that there will be days that you don’t lose any weight or you have a craving which caused you to eat the brownie you were trying to avoid.  It is okay. Just keep trying.  Do not give up just because there will be obstacles.  We would never get anywhere in life if we lived by that statement.  It would be like saying I can’t go to the store because the store may catch on fire.  It sounds crazy, right? That is how your goals should be viewed: obstacles will be there but they are not there to stop you.

Always find the upside/stay positive

During this self-improvement, you may find yourself becoming discouraged.  It is easier said than done but stay positive. You know that you are doing this for a good reason and it will only make yourself better in the long run. Always find the upside in what you are doing. There was a reason why you decided to make this change so sticking to your goal only makes you better as a person.

Never Make an excuse

Never make an excuse to stop. Remove the word ‘but’ and all that follows that word in your sentence when discussing your enhancement.  For example, instead of saying “I want to workout daily BUT I don’t have time,” say “I want to workout.” When you leave the negative part of the sentence, then you leave out the reason for the excuse.

Remind yourself why you are making this change/enhancement

Along with staying positive, it is a good idea to remind yourself why you are making this change or enhancement.  If you are losing weight to feel better about yourself, then keep reminding yourself of that.  You are more likely to succeed if you keep reminding yourself.

Keep a Journal of Daily Accomplishments

Seeing your progress in physical form is a sure way to be successful.  Writing it down or documenting your progress will help you see your progress as you accomplish your goals.  A great way is to keep a daily journal to track your success but you can be creative and use what works for you when documenting.

Believe in yourself

It is extremely important to believe in yourself.  Believe that you will achieve what goal you have set for yourself.  Nothing is impossible, especially when you know you can do it.  Believing that you can do something will make it easier to become a reality.

Achieve it and become it

Do you know that saying “If there is a will, there is a way?” Will is defined as a deliberate or fixed desire or intention.  Once you achieve your success or goal, then become your goal.  Make it a part of you.  You will be more successful at keeping your goal if you become your goal.
